Pot Roast Recipe Crock Pot: There is something about a pot roast that makes me think of my home, family, warmness and closeness. It reminds me of dinners at my grandma’s house on a Sunday, with all my aunts and uncles and cousins visiting later in the day. That aroma of a simmering pot roast brings back all those memories. My grandma didn’t have the benefit of a crock pot to use back in those days to take the hard work and long amount of time involved in making this delicious dish in the oven. She slaved and worked at it, I would think, but she made it look so effortless and easy. For her, maybe it was. For me, it isn’t. That’s why I use my crock pot a lot when making old family recipes. I just don’t have the spare time to stand in that kitchen watching that roast in the oven, adding this and that when needed. I drag my crock pot out almost every weekend. I really do!! I buy my meat on sale, whichever meat is featured at the grocery store each week, and pop that meat in my crock pot along with spices and “goodies” that make it a really good entrée to serve to my family. And if we have any leftovers, which rarely happens, I freeze the remainder to have at another time.
This is a good recipe for pot roast:
4 pound beef roast (rump roast is my favorite, but you might have your own favorite cut of meat. The rump roast, to me, has exceptional flavor.)
3 cans Swanson Beef Broth (I always buy an extra can to be on the safe side because I want to make sure the meat is covered by liquid.)
4 tablespoons flour
1 minced garlic (You can buy the little jar of pre-minced or pre-diced garlic in the grocery store produce section. When I’m in a hurry, that’s what I do.)
½ pound fresh sliced mushrooms (Here again, I buy the pre-cut mushrooms at the grocery store to save me precious time.)
1 large onion, sliced and broken into rings
Place meat in crock pot. Combine all ingredients and cook on high for 6 to 8 hours.
What to cook for dinner? That’s a frequently asked question for all of us. I love the ease of using my crock pot. I have several, mostly made by Rival, because some recipes call for the smaller crock pot. At times, I will double recipes to fill one of my larger crock pots. And I’ve had great luck in finding crock pots in good to new condition at yard sales and estate sales. I look for the newer ones, and they are out there. People receive them as gifts and then don’t use them. If it’s a little older, I check the cord to make sure it’s in good condition, and then I check the ceramic pot to make sure there are no cracks in it. If there are any stains in the ceramic pot, I won’t buy it because it’s been used too much. I hope you try this recipe, and I hope you like it. My family loooooves it!!!!
